Fishing/Tackle
At Drinking Falls, you will be fishing the first two lakes below Potter Rapids on the Churchill River. These lakes are Drinking Lake & Keg Lake. Drinking Falls is the exclusive outfitter on Keg Lake and shares Drinking Lake with one other small outfitter. Adding to this exclusivity is the camp's location on Potter Rapids. These rapids create a natural barrier, which very few fishermen can venture beyond. There are many days when you will see no other fisherman other than those from our camp or a few local Cree Indians. As you are probably aware, exclusivity in the fishing world means one thing.... Better fishing!

A typical day fishing at Drinking Falls would start in the morning in search of Walleye, which are typically in the 2-4 lb. range but can range up to 10 lbs. The Churchill is renown for being one of the finest Walleye fisheries in Saskatchewan. It usually doesn't take long to catch the limit of Walleye to enjoy for shore lunch prepared by your Cree Indian guide. After a hearty lunch, you will be in search of trophy size Northern Pike, which prowl the hundreds of back bays of the Churchill River system. Drinking Falls promotes the "catch & release" philosophy for trophy Northern Pike to ensure world class fishing for many years to come. This approach has been quite successful, as our guests continue to be amazed by the number of trophy fish caught. The Northern pike in this area can range up to 50 inches & 25 lbs.

The guides that we use at Drinking Falls are local Cree Indians and are all seasoned veterans of the Churchill River system. Because the lakes that we operate on are connected by a river system with a maze of rapids, inlets & secluded back bays, guides are required in each boat with 1 or 2 fishermen.

Drinking Falls also has an optional outpost camp on a rarely fished lake. This inland lake, Planishek Lake, is 25 miles northeast of the main lodge and accessible only by air. It provides our guests an opportunity to fish for Lake Trout, as well as Northern Pike. This outpost is operated as a day trip only with an additional cost.

Boats

Drinking Falls Wilderness Lodge operates with only the best equipment available. Our fleet currently consists of 18-ft. Alumarine boats. All are equipped with floorboards and two padded fishing seats for added stability and comfort. Our boats are powered with Yamaha 30 hp. outboard motors. The dependability and speed of these motors will cut down travel time spent between fishing holes and increase fishing time for our guests. For those occasions when our guests need a little extra room, the camp also has an additional 18-ft. Lund Alaskan with a 60 hp. Yamaha that can accommodate 3 fishermen.
